The Olympic medal designs have been revealed.

Vanoc is calling these medals an Olympic first because the medals aren’t actually flat, they are wavy and undulating. They are also quite heavy…about 500 grams each. Each is a one of a kind work of aboriginal art. The Olympic medals will feature a section of a larger work of art: an Orca design. That means each medal has it’s own element of the Orca, such as the eye or the curve of the dorsal fin.

The Paralympic medal is based on a raven design and it isn’t actually round– it’s more of a squared circle.
